As my friend went on about everything that attracted her to a certain guy as well as the one critical point that made her feel that it won’t work out between them, I listened carefully. And patiently. She had been over it quite a few times. Her inner tussle was proof enough that she so badly wished “only if” all was well.

That is when I asked her, “What if he IS the one?”

She was finally silent. For quite some time.
