Those dreamy tales
Of knights and damsels
I blame
For my unrealistic expectations.
The ones that told me
To wait
To be saved
With patience and poise.
What they didn’t tell
Was the harsh truth
That all knights were busy
Saving themselves.
So if a damsel
Waited too long,
She’d rather be prepared
For her doom.
I, the damsel must therefore
Put on my armour
And yield the sword
Which was always my own.
Not tomorrow but today,
I must save myself.
For no one else but
I am my knight in shining armour.
