What does it sound like
When a heart breaks?
Either in two neat pieces
Or a million shreds?
Is it a loud thud,
Louder than thunder?
So baffling that
It raises goosebumps?
Is it a crazy medley
Too complicated to comprehend?
So confusing that
People start ignoring it?
Or is it silence?
The unnerving, heavy kind,
That numbs the senses
But lets the tears out?
Whatever the sound is,
However, wherever, whenever,
Let’s not drown it.
Let’s let it be.
For soft or loud,
Nothing leaves more impact
Than what one feels inside
When a heart breaks.

Sometimes, we don’t acknowledge the sound, as we don’t want to hear it, don’t want to believe it’s happening. Eventually, it visits all of us, though.
Of course, the equal and opposite reaction that physicists and ethicists tell us exists, fills that same broken heart with joy and heals its ruptures.

Yes, you are a hundred percent right that many a time, we live in denial of the heartbreak, the sound it makes. But at one time or the other, we all have to accept it. That is what closure is all about. I once wrote a poem about it.

No, we are not at all patient. Especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Everyone just wants a shortcut, which by the way just doesn’t exist.
