We are all survivors,
Of pain,
Gifted by others
As well as ourselves.
Pain that makes us flinch,
Pain we remember for years.
We are all survivors,
Of injustice,
Of when we were shunned
What we truly deserved.
Injustice that pushed us back,
Injustice that roars within us.
We are all survivors,
Of hate,
Sometimes earned,
Sometimes shockingly unearned.
Hate that questioned our worth,
Hate that made us question ourselves.
We are all survivors,
Of circumstances,
That we long knew were coming,
That took us by storm.
Circumstances that passed with heavy damage,
Circumstances that were there to stay.
We are all survivors,
Of love,
The lost, losing and lasting,
The mess within it brings.
Love that made us do the crazy,
Love that made us lose ourselves.
We are all survivors,
For ourselves,
In spite of ourselves.
Survived we have so much.
Survive we will a lot more.
Survive we will!
Flipped to my “Poetry in Blogs” magazine. And shared to my social, in order for the people to know there is a wonderful poetess somewhere, a struggling author, a wonderful one. I wish you are doing great, dear.

Quite a litany, Mia, a staggering array of beasts lurking just beyond the next turn.
Yet, yours is a decidedly uplifting work, as you remind us repeatedly, “(w)e are all survivors.”
Indeed. Life does its worst, and throws at us everything it has. Yet, despite it all, we triumph. Maybe with some help from others, but mainly due to our innate quality and dogged determination. Great job, “Us!”

Keith, I’m glad that you found the poem uplifting despite its depressing premise. For life, as you put it, throws at us everything it has. How we turn the negative too into positive depends solely onto us. As for they who help us, let’s hold onto them tight. ❤
Indeed, great job, “Us!” 😄

We’ve made it this far. I’m not about to let his thing have the last word.
No Ma’am, that’s a fact.

There is an unfortunate bout of hate going around in my town. Humanity finds ways to bring it to the surface from time-to-time. Completely sucks. Hope you are well. Cheers.

Yes, I am absolutely well. But that is so sad to know about your town. Hope you and your family are well. Which place is it?

Sewing the wounds of betrayal but the memories left the stains.
The dagger may come out but the scars will remain.

These are scars of the spirit of survival, friend.
Let them remain.
These are scars of strength.

I wear these scars with pride. It reminds me “I survive that, I can survive anything.” Indeed these are scars of strength. And so as your writings!
