All We Can Do

When the heart skips a beat
At just someone’s presence,
When time stops for us
Chilling us to our bones,
All we can do
Is love.

When eyes smile
More than the lips,
When the heart hears
More than the ears,
All we can do
Is love.

When someone else’s pain
Hurts more than our own,
When someone else’s joy
Can drain away our sorrow,
All we can do
Is love.

When we don’t know
What else to do,
When we have no clue
How to make things better,
All we can do
Is love.

When even love
Is not enough,
When even love
Stifles the other,
All we can do
Is let go.

    Beautiful, Mia. Just..wow!

    Of course, the final lines contain a sobering counterpoint to the lofty spell that proceeded it, but we all have been there at times, haven’t we?

    Even if we’ve been there 1,001 times, though, all it takes is one triumph to vault us past all the regret. Indeed, your poem get the proportion just about right, with joyous reverie outpacing sorrow by five-to-one.

      Yes, the ending is in contrast to the rest of the poem above it. But isn’t life also like that at times?
      Also, no matter how many butterflies in the stomach some instances brought to one, sometimes one has to let them go, so that they can find something that lasts. 🙂
