A Love Like… Food

I want a love
A lot like food.
Not just any food,
But my favourite kind.

Not any more,
Not any less,
Just right,
According to my senses.

The kind which
Even when not in form,
Still is heartwarming,
Still means home.

No day can wreak
Enough havoc
That this food
Can’t overcome.

Whose thought is enough
To make me smile,
Even when I can’t
Really expect it.

The food which
Brings joy to the heart
And whenever the heart rejoices,
This is what I look for.

This is the kind of food
I don’t really need,
But the one I want.
A love like… my kinda food.

  1. What a great comparison, Mia, and a worthy wish to accompany. Of course! Never thought of the similarities between both, but now that you mention it, seems as though it always has been an obvious connection. How’s that for a powerful concept, huh? Well done, Mia!

My question is, if the two happened simultaneously, would you be able to bear it? In other words, what if the embodiment of this love prepared your absolute favorite dish? Rapture not just doubled, but squared. Cubed. Am I in heaven?

    1. Thank you so very much for your lovely words, Keith! I’m humbled. 🙂

Although, it was your question that brought a big smile on my face. Why wouldn’t it! 😁 Oh yes, I would be able to bear it. Who wouldn’t love to have someone they love cook up their most favourite dish? Heaven it is!

  2. We often associate food with love, or more accurately, the lack of it.
This is one of the main reasons for bulimia. I eat a lot to compensate for my emotional lack, I devour chocolate to cure my depression.

    1. Thanks for stopping by to comment on my poem again, Harry. 🙂
In my poem, food is used as an analogy to love. I honestly don’t think it is a replacement of love or anything else for that matter.
Instead of eating, I think cooking can actually be more therapeutic. Why not give that a try?
There’s also my blog which I hope will be able to induce some sunshine! 🌞 Happy reading!
