Clipping My Wings

Scissors in hand,
Smirk on face,
Slithering thoughts in mind,
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

Distinguished in power,
Distinct in person,
Diplomatic in nature,
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

At a time least expected,
At a place deemed safest,
At a mannerism applauded,
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

But I don’t make a sound,
But I don’t blink an eye,
But I don’t let you know
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

I stand patiently,
I smile back at you,
I open my arms to you although
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

If by love, you are won,
If by goodness, you are done,
If then, it’s okay
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

Alas, that’s not always the case,
All are not so great,
A few nevertheless
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

So I spread my wings,
So I rise higher than you can fathom,
So I look down at you in pity as
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

For nor are you the first,
For neither certainly the last,
For I know many like you when
I see you coming,
Wanting to clip my wings.

I am the dragon,
I am the Phoenix,
I am the winged soul,
Who can’t be stopped.
So really, how will you clip my wings?

  4. You know poetry is another beast. It comes from a different place. I read somewhere that people that write poetry doesn’t live long. I figure that is subjective. However, I think it’s b/c you all pull from a place that can be so draining. Often time in poetry, in my opinion , what you think the poet is saying is often time so far from what they are saying. You all are special people and I appreciate you.

    1. Hey San! I really don’t know whether to be awestruck by the shocking (for me) information about poets you put out or be plain happy about your appreciation. I choose the latter. For me, poetry is an expression. It makes me happy. 🙂

      1. It’s your opinion and your emotions/feelings and they matter. I want to say a book written by Malcolm Gladwell. You know he does a lot of research. Either way I understand it. I wish I could write poetry but I’m not that deep. But whenever I come to your page I’m afraid to respond b/c I’m certain that I’m so far off task of what you’re really writing.

      2. Dear, you have nothing to be afraid of! Trust me, with my poetry, what you see is what you get. And even if you get it a bit different, it’s alright. A new viewpoint just opens up my horizon too. 🙃

        Poetry is about expression so when you feel like it, whatever way you choose is fine. 🌸
