I Believe

I believe
There’s more in me
Than I’ve ever seen,
Than I’ve ever done,
Than I know.

I believe
There’s more in you
Than you let show,
Than you let be heard,
Than you know.

I believe
There’s more in this world
Than the happiest joy,
Than the saddest sorrow,
Than we know.

I’m not an idiot.
I’m not naive.
I’m not an unrealist.
Yet somehow,
I choose to believe.

I’ve had a good share of unfair.
I’ve had many a heartbreak.
I’ve had my sleepless nights.
But still,
I choose to believe.

I know what losing feels like.
I know what ridicule sounds like.
I know what uncertainty tastes like.
Even so,
I choose to believe.

Why, you ask.
How, you wonder.
When, in the midst of all the darkness
Can one be so brave
To believe?

Why not, I answer.
How otherwise, I counter.
When some light is badly needed
Can anyone be finally able
To believe.

Why is it in my nature?
How else could I, human be?
When in spite of all, I survive and thrive.
Can’t pin it on anything more than
I believe.

  1. Reading this, the idea that someone can choose to believe great things despite all kinds of terrible fears actually seems feasible. And possibly the only right way to go. I don’t know how many times I have to learn this same lesson before I’ll know it plainly in every situation, so I can’t tell you how important writers like you are in reminding us. Thank you Mia ❤️
