Hello to Yellow

I didn’t understand
Why kids teasingly said,
“Yellow, yellow,
Dirty fellow!”
I don’t understand
Why some adults
Refrain altogether
From the yellow color.

Yellow to me,
Is bright like the sun,
Is beautiful like a daffodil,
Is sweet like a mango.
Yellow to me,
Screams HAPPINESS
Unabashedly, unapologetically
Like no other color.

So the next time,
You run into yellow,
Let some of its verve
Seep into you.
So the next time,
Let your smile spread,
As you say hello to yellow,
As you say hello to happiness.

  1. I’ve wondered why most smileys are often yellow, and later realized they’re digital symbols of happiness. Your poem is a wonderful reflection on yellow, Mia! ๐Ÿ’›

  2. Yellow, in addition to its well-known meanings such as vibrant, energy, and the sun, also brings with it wisdom, for example, and other negative meanings that, I believe, only a person’s sensitivity can feel. Here in Brazil, yellow can be connected to gold. Very important text, Mia.

    1. Yes, yellow has different connotations in different cultures. But they are mostly positive. So here I have been very specific to say only what it means to me. I love yellow. ๐Ÿ’›

  3. This is beautiful, Mia! I love yellow, especially in sunflowers. Your poem spreads cheer and we need more of that! And you’ve inspired me to write about my other new favorite color, orange, as in orange California poppies. ๐Ÿงก
